If I get an Israel stamp in my US pport, will I never be able to visit other countries? Syria? and so on?

I heard if you get an Israel stamp in your US Pport, you will not be able to enter Syria for example. I would like to visit Damascus one day, and do not want to be banned forever going there. Whats the real deal?
