I pierced my own ear?

basically i got a sterilized put savlon on it and cleaned my ear with savlon (i was only going to pierce my 3rd holes so i wasnt going wasn't any bones) i got ice and numbed the area then got the needle and pierced it were i had marked it, and then left the needle in for about 5 minutes then took it out and replaced it with a sterling silver earing thatearringeen sterolised sterilizedd with savlon. after i was temped to do the 4th hole so i done the same to that too. i cant sleep on the side of my ear but it is only slightly red and only hurts when i touch it, it hasnt gone hasn'ty round the sides and there dosent seemdoesn't signs of infection. but my friend also done hers and she had to take her out because they have become infected but she changed the earing 3 tiearring could it be to do with that? what should i do to avoid infection and allow it to heal correctly? was it the right thing to do?
